Hills based The StreetCare Project founder Chris Cleary has won the Go West community award for it’s vital work with the homeless.
The StreetMed Inc. StreetCare Project follows the food services around in the Parramatta, Hills, Hawkesbury, Nepean and Katoomba areas and offers free medical aid to homeless people including blood pressure tests and free flu injections.
“My background as a First Aid instructor made me aware there that the homeless are massive victims in society,” Mrs Cleary said.
“There is nothing in place to help them and a lot of them get victimised by medical professionals because they get judged or ignored.
“I believe if we are able to treat injuries in the first instance with general first aid then a lot of them won’t be judged.”
